Brain Freeze

Owen has had a few encounters of the “frozen treat” kind in the past, but he has never had the opportunity to have one completely to himself.  This past Sunday, at our weekly lunch date at Grandma Boo-Boo’s house, Owen got to “enjoy” a frozen yogurt bar.

The picture above is Owen eating this frozen goody, he has only had it for maybe one minute at this time and as you can see it is already half gone.  Everyone is watching him eat this and thinking the same thing… he is going to give himself a major brain freeze.

Not 30 seconds later he lets out this rather loud screaming cry and starts holding his head.  Yup…Brain Freeze!! Needless to say, Owen didn’t want to finish his yogurt pop after that.  I wonder if he will ever eat popsicles again?

A First Time for Everything

Well, It has happened.  Owen had to go to the doctor because he got sick. 😦  He has an inner ear infection and possibly another viral infection.  He is on antibiotics, but it still breaks my heart.  He is at least a peaceful sicky.  He just wants to sleep all day, I suppose he knows that it will do his body good.  As you know on Monday’s I don’t really get to see Owen at all since I work during the day and have class at night.  Well, yesterday I took Owen to the doctor in the morning so I got to spend a little bit of time with him then.  But the best thing was, after I got home from class last night I woke Owen up to give him his last dose of medicine for the day and try to get him to eat some more; he didn’t eat very good during the day.  Well, he was really in a good mood.  He was smiling at me and talking.  You could tell he still wasn’t his usual self, but he was feeling better.  I just assumed that all his jabber was telling me about his day with grandma and grandpa and the weird dreams he had.  (I always have strange dreams when I am running a fever.)  After that he did eat a little, he took his medicine with no problems and then he went to bed.  I was feeling much better since it was clear that he was doing better.  It really breaks your heart when your little one is feeling like poop and you know there is nothing you can do to make him feel better.   I cried a lot, but in the end when all he wanted was to be held by his mommy, I felt like a million bucks.

Owen’s 4 Month Appt.

Well, today Owen had his 4 month doctor’s appointment.  Again, I am glad that I wasn’t able to go because he was going to have to get more shots.  This time he got to go to his appointment with his cousin Georgia, it was her 2 month “well baby” appointment.  They always do the normal check up stuff; they measure their head, get their length and their weight.  Owen only weighed 13.5 lbs.  I thought for sure that he would weigh more than that.  He is also 24 3/4 inches long.  When the nurse was trying to measure his head she had such a difficult time because he kept turning his head to follow her hands.  He did cry when they gave him his shots, but only for as long as he had to lay on the table alone, he was fine just as soon as Grandma Anita was able to pick him up.  I guess they also give them some sort of vaccine by mouth too, but he made the funniest faces when she gave it to him.  He has also become quite empathetic.  When Georgia was getting her shots and began to cry, he started to cry too.  The nurse thought it was so cute that he cared so much about Georgia crying.

I just can’t believe how fast he is growing up!  It makes me a little teary eyed to look back at his pictures of when he was just a new baby boy.  Now he is growing up and all….it is truly bittersweet.

OH!! Here is just one more update, Owen is now sleeping in his own bed in his own room!  Apparently I could have started this much sooner than I thought.  He didn’t seem to care that he was alone in his room.  I put him down in his crib, awake, and left the room.  Your supposed to let them learn how to get themselves to sleep.  Well, I waited for his crying to start and I heard nothing.  So after about 15 minutes of silence, I made Tyler go in and peek at him.  He came back and told me that Owen was sleeping soundly.  I couldn’t believe it, Owen was fine and went to sleep on his own without a fuss! And believe it or not, it has been like that every night since!!  I guess it was just mommy that wasn’t ready for the transition ;).

What a Whopper

Owen had his 2 month appointment today.  Luckily I didn’t have to take him because he had to get his first shots.  He also had to be weighed.  Owen now weighs a whopping 11 lbs 9 oz and he is 22 1/2 inches long.

He is apparently a very brave little boy.  He didn’t cry when they pricked his heel.  But when he got his shots he cried a little but was fine afterwards.  My brave little guy.

So Owen is in the 50th percentile for his height and weight, but he is in the 100th percentile for his good looks. 😉
